When granulation is necessary, granules are preferably fine and coarse, because they have higher powder flowability [217]. Figure 13 shows the powder flowability of different granules prepared by a commercial granulation machine. Note that the flowability of the dry powder is also included to evaluate the powder flowability. The powder flowability of the granules is comparable to that of the powder, as shown in Fig. 13. Therefore, the powder flowability can be attributed to the granules. However, the flowability of the granules is higher than that of the powder, as shown in Fig. 13. This is because the granules are much finer than the powder, as shown in Table 6, and the sieving step reduces the particle size. The powder flowability can be improved by using a binder more strongly than the original, by adding a flowability improver, or by adding a lubricant to the feedstock powder.
